Overview

Ocean5 is not your typical entertainment venue.

It’s a multi-experience destination bringing together bowling, arcade gaming, laser challenge, dining, and private events under one roof while staying rooted in sustainability and community.

But their digital presence didn’t tell that story.

Their website lacked clarity, personality, and direction. It showed what Ocean5 offered, but not why it mattered. Our job was to transform their website into something more than informational.

We needed to turn it into an experience in itself.

Strategy

Ocean5 had already created something remarkable in the physical space. The problem was none of that translated online.

The website explained what Ocean5 had.

It didn’t communicate what Ocean5 was.

There was no clear story. No emotional entry point. No sense of what made this place different from every other entertainment venue. And for a brand built on connection, that disconnect mattered. Because if people don’t feel something before they arrive, they’re far less likely to walk through the door.

What Wasn’t Working

  • Messaging focused on features, not experience
  • No clear brand story or emotional connection
  • Navigation felt generic and transactional
  • Sustainability—one of their biggest differentiators—was underrepresented
  • Guests didn’t know what to expect before arriving
  • The overall experience felt more like a standard entertainment venue

The Shift

We didn’t start by asking what pages needed to be rewritten.

We asked a different question:

What does Ocean5 feel like and how do we make someone feel that before they even get there?

Because Ocean5 isn’t about bowling lanes or arcade games. It’s about what happens between those moments.

It’s the place where:

  • coworkers become friends
  • families slow down and reconnect
  • celebrations actually feel like something

Once we understood that, the direction became clear.

Ocean5 isn’t a venue.

It’s a gathering place.

Reimagining the Experience

The original site was structured like most entertainment websites; functional, but expected. We knew if Ocean5 felt different in person, the website had to feel different too.

So instead of leading with categories, we led with action and invitation.

Not “Fun & Games.” But Let’s Play.

Not “Parties & Events.” But Let’s Gather.

This small shift changed the tone entirely. The site no longer spoke at the user, it spoke to them. It felt less like navigation, and more like an invitation.

Designing for Real People

The original site was structured like most entertainment websites; functional, but expected. We knew if Ocean5 felt different in person, the website had to feel different too.

So instead of leading with categories, we led with action and invitation.

Not “Fun & Games.” But Let’s Play.

Not “Parties & Events.” But Let’s Gather.

This small shift changed the tone entirely. The site no longer spoke at the user, it spoke to them. It felt less like navigation, and more like an invitation.

Elevating the Brand

Visually, Ocean5 needed to move away from an “arcade” feel and step into something more refined. We developed a design system centered on vibrant sophistication balancing energy with elevation.

Key decisions included:

  • Deep navy and dark teal color foundations to create a premium atmosphere
  • High-end typography with strong hierarchy for clarity and impact
  • Large, cinematic imagery that captures real guest experiences

Rather than focusing on games, the design highlights people in motion, laughing, celebrating, connecting.

Elevating the Voice

One of the biggest opportunities was tone.

  • Ocean5 needed to feel elevated without feeling exclusive.
  • Fun without being childish.
  • Sophisticated, yet still warm.

So we stripped away generic language and replaced it with something more intentional. The goal wasn’t to describe the space. It was to let people imagine themselves inside it.

Creating a Seamless Experience

Behind the scenes, development played a critical role in bringing the experience to life. We focused on both performance and flexibility to support the client long-term.

Enhancements included:

  • Direct booking integrations with Partyworks for seamless event reservations
  • Custom Gravity Forms for flexible event management
  • Mailchimp integration to grow and manage audience engagement
  • Optimized performance systems, including caching, CDN delivery, and image lazy loading
  • CSS code splitting to improve load speed and responsiveness

We also introduced smooth page transitions, creating a more fluid, elevated browsing experience that reflects the in-person environment.

Results

The new Ocean5 website reflects the same care, energy, and thoughtfulness customers experience when they walk through the doors. Where the old site listed activities, the new site tells a story. Where the old experience was transactional, the new one is emotional.

Where the site once felt like a venue, it now feels like a destination.

5-Stars From Ocean5

M Agency has been genuinely great to work with! Their team is incredibly impressive, not only full of experts, but also thoughtful listeners who take the time to really understand your business before offering smart, practical advice…As someone who manages marketing without a full team or a ton of experience, I really appreciated how approachable and supportive they’ve been throughout the process.
